MDMS Investments Value

Are you getting most value out of your MDMS investment – IT, business processes and resources?

Your utility has implemented a new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (Smart Meters, RF Network, Head End System and Meter Data Management System). Are your MDMS/HES effectively tuned and configured to enable your organization to get the most value out of its overall IT and Human Resources?

Making your applications work together

As part of your AMI implementation, some changes were made to your underlying IT and other systems (e.g. CIS) as well as your business processes and resource utilization. Most of the changes were done product-by-product to make the individual applications work together, but they were also constrained by the three legs of the project stool: scope, cost (money and resources), and time. In addition, your employees, who know your business best, had limited experience with the individual tools being implemented and how they would relate to the complete end-to-end system.

AMI systems – Maximize the end-to-end ecosystem

Since the end of the initial implementation project, your team, your experts, have had these new systems in their hands for some time, and they have likely identified processes they would like to see re-designed. Perhaps changes have been made to other areas of the business or other systems that need to be reflected now in the AMI systems, e.g. new rates in your CIS. The time has come to fine-tune and capitalize on the vast features in your AMI systems across the end-to-end business processes, optimizing the investment you have already made for your enterprise. It’s time to roll out version 2.0, but not just an update of the IT systems; instead focus on maximizing the complete end-to-end ecosystem.

Full system tune-up

The areas to be addressed in a full system tune-up include: 24-Hour Clock, VEE settings, Smart Group configurations, NPM setup, On-Demand configurations, and much more. What each of these means and how they impact your business’ daily operations will be touched on in future blog postings.
